Why Attention Needed?

With the explosion of AI-related content, a common question arises: Aren’t there enough AI podcasts already? We asked ourselves the same thing. The reality is that while AI discussions are everywhere, few focus on the crucial topic of safety. AI is advancing at an unprecedented pace, but without a clear understanding of its risks and safeguards, we risk unintended consequences.

This is the focus of Attention Needed. We want to make sense of the ongoing developments in AI and explore the role safety plays in shaping its future. Our goal is to bridge the gap between technical advancements and real-world security challenges, ensuring that AI remains a tool for good.

The generative AI boom has unlocked unprecedented creativity and efficiency, but it also brings new challenges that demand urgent attention. How do we balance open-source innovation with safety? What are the risks associated with AI at the frontier? And how should we think about AI in an increasingly agent-driven world? These are the types of critical questions we’ll be tackling in each episode.

Kicking Off with Joe Spisak from Meta

For our inaugural episode, we’re thrilled to welcome Joe Spisak, Director of Product Management for Generative AI at Meta. Joe leads Llama and third-party ecosystem efforts and is the co-founder of the AI Alliance, an initiative co-launched by IBM and Meta to promote open, safe, and responsible AI. He also chairs the Alliance’s Safety & Security workgroup.
