A distinguished researcher renowned for his interdisciplinary work, which spans cognitive science, philosophy, and artificial intelligence, Dr. Danks has spent his career significantly advancing our understanding of AI's societal implications, emphasizing the importance of safety, security, and ethical considerations.

Dr. Danks' pioneering contributions have established him as a leading authority in responsible AI development. He has been appointed as an inaugural member of the esteemed National AI Advisory Committee (NAIAC), providing advice to the President and the National AI Initiative Office on topics about AI in the United States. He also serves as a member of the advisory board for the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), a private foundation founded by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, making recommendations to strengthen America’s long-term competitiveness through safe, secure, and ethical use of emerging technologies.

Dr. Danks is currently Professor of Data Science at UCSD Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI), Professor of Philosophy at UCSD’s Department of Philosophy, and Affiliate Faculty in UCSD’s Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Previously, he was the L.L. Thurstone Professor of Philosophy & Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Danks received his A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton University and his PhD from UCSD.
